The Owl House Recap, Episode 8

American animation loves the body swap episode, also known as the Freaky Friday flip. From Teen Titans to American Dragon Jake Long, we often see a case where magic or science fiction forces to opposite characters to live out another life. It can lead to a lot of comedy, and fun voice acting in some cases. We can also get some nice epiphanies about the characters and who they are.

“No one has an easy life” is the theme of this episode. We get to see where even King, who does have a sweet life as Eda’s roommate, has his drawbacks as a cute fallen demon. I’m not a fan of body swap episodes in general but this one had a twist by showing three beings doing the switch instead of two, and willingly at that.

Once Upon A Swap

During a day where Luz has to manage Eda’s stall, Amity’s “friend” Boscha comes to mock her. She then cuddles King and takes selfies, much to his consternation, and laughs when Eda tries to sell “human fashions” to her. Eda in the meantime tries to explain that just because she’s a powerful witch doesn’t mean she can advertise her business so blatantly or find solutions for all her problems. King argues that he is not a pampered baby, and Luz says her teen drama is hard to understand. They can’t see eye to eye.
