The Owl House Recap, Episode 10
Fantasy novels make sentience interesting with magical objects. So do animated films; the sugar bowl from The Sword in the Stone will always steal my heart. Yet The Owl House goes for the deconstruction route when these technically not-alive objects or not-sentient are hurt. Plus, they can easily be taken for granted.
“Your friends are not tools” is the main theme of the episode. We establish that the names for the creatures on magic staffs are Palismans, and Eda’s wooden Owlbert is one. As Luz learns to not take Owlbert for granted, King does his best to save Eda when his machinations get her curse form in trouble. Child and demon take responsibility for their actions to fix things. We will see if they remember this a few episodes later.
Escape of the Palisman
At the local park, King fights for dominance of the playground and screams like “a teakettle” after losing, in Eda’s words. Luz is invited to a Hexside sports game, as an ill Eda needs to lie down and get some elixir to deal with her curse. Unfortunately, she, Gus, and Willow miss the Hexside transport to the game and decides to “borrow” Owlbert the magic staff when King tells her Eda should be fine with it. Luz thinks her limited flying experience should be enough.
