Anne has spent a few weeks in Amphibia by this point. She’s learned to work on a farm, negotiate for ingredients, and fake pimples in a pinch. Also, Anne has found out that giantcaterpillars are not the same as cats. But has she become a fully responsible and honorable Plantar? Not yet.

“Obligation” is our theme for these two episodes; what are the things we have to do when we are part of a family or group? A lot, even if we aren’t related by blood. When we work as a team, we have responsibilities.

Contagi-Anne

Anne fakes being sick to get out of working in a tough rainstorm. She feels guilty, however, when the Plantars seem to contract a fatal illness from picking up her slack, a disease that turns them red. Anne then spends more time getting them to a healing spring than she would have spent helping them out in the rain. Just as she thinks she failed and confesses her lie, she finds out the frogs are not dying and instead are bright red due to a mushroom she fed them. Anne clutches the Plantars, swears to never fake being sick again, and cries happily that they’re okay.

This episode is pretty funny; we get moments such as Sprig asking why frogs need raingear when water is their natural element. It’s also an indicator that trying to shirk work…
