Amphibia Recap, Episode 7

For better or for worse, humans are social creatures. We need each other, despite any introversion or desire to spend time alone. How others judge those bonds can affect our attitudes in turn. For Amphibia, frogs are similar. They need companionship, platonic or otherwise. So do carnivorous love doves.

“Relationships” is the theme of these two episodes, and we finally get some plot! Anne tells the Plantars how she came to Amphibia, but not how she got her hands on the box. Hop Pop reveals he’s hiding some secrets, though we’re not entirely sure why. Also, we meet Ivy and Soggy Joe! They are some cool characters that show not to judge a book by their froggy exteriors.

Dating Season

Anne is intrigued when Sprig introduces her to Ivy Sundew, one of his childhood acquaintances. She starts treating them as boyfriend and girlfriend. Hop Pop likes the idea of marrying into the Sundew family and getting their proprietary seeds, so he negotiates with Ivy’s mother Felicia for a courtship dance that will bond the young frogs. Anne gives tips based on her dating magazine, much to Polly and Sprig’s consternation. Ivy admits she doesn’t want to date or marry Sprig, to Sprig’s relief, and they run off in the middle of the dance. Their families follow, only to get caught by giant…
