Amphibia Recap, Episode 3

In the previous Amphibia episode, Anne physically adjusted to staying in frog land. Now she’s working on the emotional adjustments.

The themes of these two episodes are “ respecting tradition”. Anne for her part wants to disregard it, while Hop Pop wants to abide by the old ways. We can understand their perspectives the longer that the story persists. When you think you know best, it means you are often blind to reality. At the same time, wanting to make a change and break outdated traditions is noble and necessary.

Anne’s stubbornness drives the plot of these two episodes, and it shows. She thinks she knows best, and while she is right, she is also wrong. Her time in Amphibia hasn’t changed her enough so that she realizes that the Earth rules don’t apply. Hop Pop isn’t yet flexible enough for change.

Hop Luck

Anne finds out that the Plantars lose an annual potluck because Hop Pop’s recipes are terrible, and they spend the night in a cage of shame. She decides to help out by gathering ingredients for pizza, but their quest proves too hazardous. In the end, they have to produce one of Hop Pop’s dishes with some of the tomatoes they harvested from a carnivorous plant. The Plantars lose, but Anne decides to go into the…
