Amphibia Recap, Episode 2

Now that episode 1 showed us the world of Amphibia, episode 2 focuses on character dynamics. We get some reality checks about someone moving into a new world and house. Anne isn’t used to adjusting to a new home, with different ground rules.

The themes of both these episodes are “adjusting to a new living space”. The people who share a house with you will clash with you, and learning to be open about these issues will make living dynamics better. While “Flood, Sweat, and Tears” is more overt about this, “Cane Crazy” also talks about how to get along better with your hosts.

Cane Crazy

Anne gets too uppity about Hop Pop’s cooking, so he threatens to kick her out if she keeps being sassy and chaotic. Then she breaks Hop Pop’s heirloom cane while goofing around and scrambles to fix or replace it. Leopold the local woodcarver can’t fix it, but he gives them directions to the dangerous tree where the cane came from, as well as a map under protest. The kids fail because the Doom Tree is actually a stick insect that tries to eat them, but Hop Pop forgives Anne and says he was never going to send her outside. Instead, she has to do dishes for a month. Anne accepts this punishment without complaint, as well as Hop Pop trying to sass her back. As he puts…
