Amphibia manages to nail some of the pains of growing up. The worst is not knowing what kind of job you will have in the future or who could be your soulmate. Especially when you’re a child, it can be hard to grasp the finality. You are more likely to determine what you don’t want.

“Preparing for the future” is the theme of the next two episodes. Sprig, perpetually stuck between being the older brother and a petty child, has to figure out what he wants now and later. He does know he doesn’t want to marry Maddie, but that’s about it.

Cursed

Sprig is terrified of Maddie, the baker’s daughter who has been his fiancee since the beginning of the season. Anne suggests breaking up with her, and they do so via paper airplane since no frog has a phone. They then get cursed; Sprig grows hair all over his body and looks like a Muppet, while Anne slowly turns into a bird. While Anne doesn’t mind, Sprig does, and she tells him they need to talk to Maddie. Maddie then visits with bread she baked — shaped like Anne and Sprig — and tells the two that she didn’t curse them. She does help them find the real malicious magic frog — Barry, whom Anne and Sprig knocked over by accident at the beginning of the episode. Maddie then fights Barry and turning him into a hairy bird. Anne and…
