Amphibia Recap, Episode 16
We all have those moments where no one is watching us. Our thoughts and actions in those moments of being alone can help us determine who we are. TV Tropes calls this “What you are in the dark”.
“Sneaky selfishness” is the theme of this new pair of episodes. We get more plot, and sadly some of our characters’ worst moments. One frog admits his selfishness, while another hides his dark secrets under a tree. It seems that flaws run in the family, along with good intentions.
Family Fishing Trip
Sprig is excited to go on the annual fishing trip with Hop Pop. He sees it as a bonding occasion for him and his grandfather. Unfortunately, Hop Pop has invited Sylvia Sundew to join the family. Sprig sings sadly about how he’s become a third wheel, especially since none of his spiteful pranks derail Sylvia. As Anne tries out parasailing for the first time, Sprig’s disappointment and envy grow to the point where he tells Sylvia to pick a flower from a giant crab, which appears as an island in the water. He then goes to rescue her when conscience catches up with his brain, and Hop Pop reveals that Sylvia convinced him to spend some fishing time with Sprig. Cue one epic parasailing moment, and Hop Pop nearly destroying the boat while battling the crab. Sylvia forgives Sprig for the murder attempt and Sprig welcomes her into the family. As he says…
