Amphibia Recap, Episode 15

A common staple of horror is the screaming woman. Sometimes the women in the story, cis or trans, have a good reason to scream. There are monsters, or yellow wallpaper, that needs to be defeated or peeled away. Or we need to prove the monsters are there so that we don’t feel alone.
“The screaming woman” seems to be the theme for these episodes of Amphibia, where a little polliwog screams in the night and a human bellows during the day. In one case, Polly realizes the family is in danger long before they do, and saves their lives. In another, Anne insists that she saw a mythical creature, and is mocked by her adoptive family. We see two sides of the same coin. It is a shame this wasn’t aired during Halloween because this would have been the perfect way to set the stage!
Night At The Inn
The Plantars try to traverse the mountain pass, only to find the cold snap from the previous two episodes has filled the path with ice, meaning Anne can’t travel outside the valley to find a way home. Sprig cheers up Anne by leading her to a dangerous place, while Hop Pop refuses to let Polly wander alone because she’s too little. They camp out in an inn when Bessie has snail trouble, and lightning destroys Hop Pop’s family tent. Polly, resentful that she’s called a “polliwog” and…
