Amphibia Recap, Episode 11

Our families and societies put pressure on us to conform to certain ideals. Then we have to decide if refusing to conform will destroy our image, or enhance it. This especially counts when we have responsibilities.
“Reputation” is the theme for these two episodes. The Plantars don’t have a good reputation due to Hop Pop’s and other ancestors’ misdeeds. He attempts to redeem them in both of these episodes and succeeds in unconventional ways. Anne in one episode tries to be adventurous, while in the other she urges caution. We also see her resourcefulness and versatility when faced with seemingly impossible problems.
On another note, these two are my favorite funny episodes for Amphibia. The humor is on-point and delightfully bizarre.
Grubhog Day
At the annual Grubhog Festival, Hop Pop volunteers Sprig to watch over the little grub until the ceremony. That means no rides or treats, until Anne convinces Sprig to take the Grubhog with them for face-painting and carousels. They lose him on the new rollercoaster, though, thanks to a vulture grabbing the bug. Anne quickly makes a substitute sock puppet and does Jim Henson proud with a slapstick routine at the ceremony.
