Amphibia Recap, Episode 10

In life, we make compromises for morality. Our pedestals fall, and we have to decide if the music made by a giant creep is still worth listening to, or if we should forgive people for hurting us. At some point, we have to ask when we become complicit in wrongdoing, and if we should make the choice to stand up for what’s right. That choice never goes away, especially in this day and age.

“Complicity” becomes the theme for the next two episodes. With such a heavy message, we don’t even get the regular theme song. Two different humans are asked to make choices based on what their oppressors offer. We aren’t surprised by the result, but we do fear for their lives.

Toad Tax

Anne is upset that she’s getting used to the insect cuisine, and that the town still doesn’t respect her. She gets recruited by the toad tax collectors when they respect her tennis swing. A suspicious Sprig follows because instinct tells him this is a bad situation. It seems no one in town has paid her taxes, and Anne tries to sneak back a handful of belongings that the collectors take from each individual. She ends up quitting when the collectors refuse to believe Hop Pop paid his taxes, and try to take Bessie. The tax collectors break her arm for standing up to them, but Sprig reveals the mayor…
