Amphibia Recap, Episode 6
Warning: this post has spoilers for Amphibia
The worst part about being a kid is that no one listens to you unless you’re giving a presentation in class. As you get older, still no one will listen unless you make an effort to establish authority. Yet taking charge is scary! You have to admit when you’re wrong or have faith in your ability to shoulder responsibility.
“Listening” is the theme of the next two episodes of Amphibia. Sometimes an idea is terrible, and sometimes inspiration is wrong. Other times, we need to listen before jumping over that precipice. Still, a bad idea can become better when we take a moment to consider other people’s perspectives. If we acknowledge the suggestions that people we care about, then we can make life better.
Sprig vs. Hop Pop
Sprig and Polly get righteously outraged when they find out Hop Pop burns their suggestions about improving farm work. When Hop Pop refuses to apologize, Sprig challenges him for ownership of the farm. Sprig wins their sumo wrestling mud brawl and runs the farm his way while Hop Pop mopes with sapient bugs in the graveyard. After pests overrun the farm and they run out of food, Anne and Polly run to get Hop Pop after Sprig refuses to consider he may be wrong. Sprig lets Hop Pop win when Hop Pop promises to listen to suggestions.
