It is now 2020. We are in the age of hindsight and I hope of rebellious art. With 20/20 vision, as the pun goes, let’s usher in a new decade.

So how was 2019? Personally, for me, it was up and down. There were many joys, and as many sorrows to match. But how was the world? It depends on where you look. We can eye several angles.

New Media Flourished While Old Media Was Corrupted

We got a fair amount of new shows, books, and movies that are amazing and stole our hearts. I’ve been reading the newest Wizards of Once series and book three is quite a ride. Other series have also stolen our hearts.

Detective Pikachu is the best live-action adaptation of Japanese anime that I have seen this year. It cast a POC Justice Smith as the lead, translated enough of Pokemon that it would make sense to a Western audience, and gave us a rocking fun adventure. If Pikachu could win us over, then no other film company has an excuse.

Cartoon Network has been on fire. They wrapped up season five of Steven Universe before giving us the movie and the continuing series. We also got Infinity Train, a miniseries that shows a girl trapped on a train with cars as large as life and entire worlds. I’ve been watching that with great interest.
